Simple Spring Cleaning Solutions

Don’t you just love the feeling of springtime in the air? We can’t wait to spend more time outdoors and are keen to cultivate the dead lawn and prepare it for the beauty it will be bringing to extend our living space and quality of life. We embrace the hard work.

But let’s face it. The mud is real.

The spring maintenance chores, at times, seem endless.

And these feelings are intensified if you are preparing to or trying to sell your home. Being in real estate selling heightens the urgency to get through the messy mud days of spring. The last thing anyone wants is to bring all the debris, mud and dirt from the outdoors inside.

How do you get the mud to remain outside? Is there really a magic trick or solution?

Strategies to keep dirt and mud from coming inside are vital to keeping people and pets from trekking it indoors. If you were wondering how to keep up with keeping your house clean, we have some helpful tips here to support the process and possibly save your sanity.

But if your home is already muddy and a showing is imminent, you need quick clean-up processes to have it sparkle during the messy parts of spring. Here are some simple stain solutions for mud!

Carpet or Upholstery

Let the mud dry, and then you should be able to brush it off or vacuum it as much as possible. Follow up with sponging the stain with a mix of water and a small amount of hand dishwashing detergent. After the stain is gone, blot with just cold water and let dry.

Hardwood, Tile or Walls

Carefully scrape off any dry mud or dirt. Wipe the hard surface with a clean wet cloth and a cleaning solution. Rinse and wipe with a dry towel.

Optimize your mudroom

They call it a mudroom for a reason. If the beautiful flooring in your entrance or mudroom is challenging to keep clean and risks damage due to the water and excess debris, it is probably not the right flooring for that area. Instead, you want your mudroom or entrance to have easy to clean flooring that can withstand water and dirt. Choosing functional and protective flooring with strength and endurance for Canadian seasons is always a great idea.

Invest in entrance preparation

Having a broom at all entrances and paw/foot wiping towels ready upon arrival are helpful before anyone gets past the mat. We all know that taking a couple of minutes to sweep the dirt away immediately will keep it from spreading to other areas of the house.

Doors and windows alert

Rain, dust, pollen, and mud can naturally magnetize to stick to the outside windows and doors. Try to instill a no-touch zone with your family to minimize dirt and mud. If you are selling your home, investing in a fresh, clean window cleaning will improve the look, light, and overall mood for you as well as for potential buyers.

Inspect your property for low points

You may also notice that your outdoor spaces have mud collectors that can help you manage the mess during the spring and the future. If you have large puddle areas on your property, your yard may have low spots causing it. You may need to add a mix of sand and soil to add height to the puddle pools with grass to avoid future problems and minimize the mess.

Spring cleaning can be daunting, but keeping the mud to a minimum will make it manageable. Many people want to wait till the mess of springtime is over to list their home, but that might put you behind on the popular spring market. If you are drowning in the mud, we understand! We create clear-cut strategies to simplify and address keeping your house showable during mud season. Reach out, and let’s create a plan.
